Computer hardware

For EDI, this is the equipment required to trade electronically. Depending on your version of the chicken and egg argument, your software choice may determine the hardware required or your hardware choice may determine your software options. Because GXS TradeWeb is Internet and forms-based, it can run on either a PC or Mac platform and requires almost no hard disk space.

Computer software

For EDI, this is the software required to trade electronically. There are many packages available for use on a variety of Value Added Networks. Packages that are used on the GXS network include Business Network EDI and EDI*EXPRESS. Typically these packages are used by Closed Communities and vary in price and options.

In addition to your EDI software, you may also use other software to create and store business information (such as bills or orders) and translation software to translate those files into formats that can be used to communicate electronically between trading partners.

The only software required to use GXS TradeWeb is a Web Browser (Internet Explorer 5.0+ or Netscape 4.5+ or compatible) and a trading partner agreement.
